How to Sign Up & Verify on Bybit

Creating an account takes about three minutes — but the difference between a properly secured, fully verified account and a half-finished one shows up the first time you try to deposit, withdraw, or recover access. This walkthrough covers every step end to end: registration, partner code lock-in, two-factor setup, KYC documentation, and the funding workflow most newcomers get wrong.

Heads up: KYC is now mandatory

Bybit used to be known for letting you trade without verification — that's changed. Non-verified accounts are limited to withdrawal-only, so you'll complete verification before you can deposit or trade. Wondering exactly what changed? KYC Transfer

Already Have a Bybit Account?

If you already trade on Bybit but signed up without a discount, you can apply one to a new account via Bybit's KYC Transfer — a legitimate process Bybit allows (one KYC-verified account per person). If it's been under ~14 days since you registered, you may also be able to add a code via Account Settings or Support.

Funding

Deposit & Withdraw Basics

Deposit crypto

Pick the asset and the network that matches where you're sending from (the networks on both ends must match — sending on the wrong one can mean lost funds). Copy the deposit address or scan the QR, then send.

Deposit fiat

Availability varies by region — many users fund via P2P or supported payment methods.

Withdraw

Withdrawals require your 2FA code and are subject to limits based on your KYC level. For larger transfers, the Travel Rule means exchanges share basic sender/recipient information — so transfer between accounts you own and keep details accurate.

7 Security Rules That Protect Your Account For Life

Over 90% of exchange account losses come not from hacks but from skipped security settings. Knock out these seven steps right after sign-up and your account stays just as safe even as your portfolio grows.

  • 1Set up 2FA with Google Authenticator or Authy, and store the QR code and backup seed key on paper, offline.
  • 2Enable login and withdrawal alerts, and register an anti-phishing code (a unique string shown in every official email).
  • 3Turn on the withdrawal whitelist so funds can only be sent to pre-registered addresses.
  • 4When issuing API keys, always enable IP whitelisting and disable withdrawal permissions (enable temporarily only when needed).
  • 5Apply 2FA to your email account too — remember that email is the recovery starting point for every exchange account.
  • 6Use passwords of at least 16 characters mixing uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols — and never reuse them elsewhere.
  • 7Never sign in on public Wi-Fi, and ideally use a dedicated browser profile for trading.

KYC Requirements

Required Documents & Common Rejection Reasons

Bybit's KYC is processed automatically through global KYC vendors (Onfido / Sumsub). Most submissions are approved within 5 minutes, but anything that hits the rejection reasons below has to be re-submitted — and three consecutive rejections on the same ID push your case into manual review, which takes longer.

Accepted IDs

Passport, national ID card, driver's license, residence permit, or permanent residency card. Only unexpired originals are accepted.

Selfie / Liveness

Face the camera and follow the automatic prompts (turn head, blink). Masks, hats, and sunglasses cause an automatic rejection.

Processing Time

Typically 5–30 minutes. During peak traffic (late weekend nights, sudden volatility) it can stretch up to 24 hours.

Proof of Address (Advanced)

A utility bill, bank statement, or government-issued document dated within the last 3 months. Mobile phone bills are accepted.

Pass on the First Try Checklist

  • Glare / shadowsLay the ID flat on a table and shoot from directly above. Avoid shooting under direct fluorescent lighting.
  • Cropped cornersAll four corners of the ID must be inside the frame (align with the on-screen guide box).
  • Blurry textMinimum 1080p resolution. Any handwritten amendments on the ID cause a rejection.
  • E-copies / scansOnly direct smartphone photos are accepted. No PDFs, photocopies, or photos of another screen.
  • Name mismatchThe romanized name entered at sign-up must match the passport MRZ exactly.

Sign-up FAQ

The Most Common Pre-Sign-Up Questions

Can I use a VPN?+

Bybit is restricted in certain countries (the US, mainland China, and others), and using a VPN to bypass those restrictions violates the terms of service. If your ID's country of issuance doesn't match your IP location during KYC, additional review is triggered, and serious violations can result in account freezes or withdrawal blocks. Signing up normally with an ID that matches your country of residence is the only safe path.

Should I sign up with email or phone?+

Email is recommended. Phone numbers are vulnerable to SIM-swap attacks, and recovery becomes painful if you move abroad or switch carriers. With email you control the domain yourself, and adding your phone number afterwards as a secondary auth factor is the most resilient combination.

Can I sign up under a family member's name?+

Absolutely not. Bybit strictly enforces a One Person, One Account policy and runs automated face-matching between your selfie and ID photo during KYC. Accounts flagged as proxy/borrowed identities can have their entire balance frozen and trigger source-of-funds investigations.

Is there a retry limit after a KYC rejection?+

You can retry up to about 10 times per day, but three consecutive rejections move your case from the automated pipeline to manual review, which takes 1–3 business days. Read the rejection reason carefully, adjust lighting, framing, and resolution as per the checklist above, then re-submit.
